EU AND EURO AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, DECEMBER 2021

The Euro Area (19 countries) unemployment rate edged down 0.1 percentage point to 7.0% in December 2021, down from 8.2% in December 2020. 

For the broader European Union (27 countries), the unemployment rate declined 0.1 percentage point to 6.4% in December 2021. In December 2020, the EU27 unemployment rate was 7.5%.

Among major European economies, the unemployment rate was highest in Spain, Greece and Italy. The lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Czechia, Poland and Germany.
