NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL GOODS EXPORTS, JANUARY 2022

Nova Scotia international merchandise exports were $500.0 million in January 2022, an increase of 16.7% compared to January 2021. Nova Scotia export shipments were 8.8% above pre-pandemic levels January 2020  ($459.5 million). Canada merchandise exports increased 17.5% compared to January 2021 and were 18.3% higher compared to January 2020.                                                                                                                                                  

Year-over-year (January 2022 vs. January 2021)

International merchandise exports were higher in eight provinces in January 2022. The largest increases were in Alberta and British Columbia. The largest decline was in Newfoundland and Labrador (-23.3%).

In January 2022, Nova Scotia exports totalled $500.0 million, the highest shipments for January since 2014.

The largest dollar increase in year-to-date exports has been farm, fishing and intermediate food products (+$57.1 million, +59.1%). Dollar changes in other sectors were relatively small for January 2022 compared to January 2021.

 

 

 

Nova Scotia Year-to-Date by Country (January 2022 vs January 2021, customs-basis, unadjusted)

For January 2022 compared to January 2021, merchandise exports increased to both China (+$40.6 million; +88.6%) and the United States (+$36.7 million; +12.9%).

Exports to the largest Euro Area countries (Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain) and United Kingdom were up compared to last year, while exports to large economies in Asia (Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore), Mexico, and other countries were down.
