UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, NOVEMBER 2021 TO JANUARY 2022

The UK Office for National Statistics reported today that the unemployment rate for the three-month period November 2021 to January 2022 was 3.9%, down from 4.1% during the previous three month period. The unemployment rate was 5.1% in November 2020 to January 2021.

The UK unemployment rate had generally been falling since late 2013 until the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic from December 2019 to February 2020. The unemployment rate increased from February to December 2020, but has fallen since the end of 2020.

There were 1.336 million unemployed people, 402,000 fewer than for a year earlier.

Employment was at 32.493 million, 380,000 more compared with a year earlier.
