NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, FEBRUARY 2022

Month-over-month (Feb 2022 vs. Jan 2022)

 

In Nova Scotia, the price of new housing remained unchanged for the ninth consecutive month. Nationally, prices were up 1.1%. In February 2022, new home prices increased in 18 of the 27 CMAs and remained unchanged in 9. 

The largest month-over-month increases were in Alberta (+3.3%) and New Brunswick (+2.1%). New home prices in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, nova Scotia were unchanged from last month.

 

Year-over-year (Feb 2022 vs Feb 2021)

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 4.5% from the previous year in February 2022. Nationally, prices were up 10.9%. All provinces posted gains led by Manitoba (+21.5%). Newfoundland and Labrador (+4.0%) reported the smallest gain in February 2022.

 

 

Year-over-year (Feb 2022 vs Feb 2021): Census Metropolitan Areas

Halifax new home prices increased 4.5% year-over-year in February 2022.

New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+25.1%). New housing price had the smallest increase in in Hamilton (+0.6%).

 Year-to-date (Jan-Feb 2022 vs Jan-Feb 2021): Provinces

All provinces reported year-to-date growth in new housing prices. Nova Scotia increased 5.7% and nationally the increase was 11.4%. Manitoba (+22.0%) had the largest increase and Newfoundland and Labrador (+4.0%) the smallest.

 Year-to-date (Jan-Feb 2022 vs Jan-Feb 2021): Census Metropolitan Areas

Halifax's new housing price index was up 5.7% for January-February 2022 compared to January-February 2021. All cities had growth with the fastest growth in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+26.0%) and the slowest in Hamilton (+0.3%).
