WHOLESALE TRADE, FEBRUARY 2022

MONTH-OVER-MONTH (seasonally adjusted, Feb 2022 vs. Jan 2022)

Nova Scotia's wholesale trade decreased 2.1% to $1,105.6 million. Canada's wholesale trade decreased 0.4% to $78.8 billion. Four provinces reported monthly increases in wholesale trade, with Saskatchewan reporting the largest gain, and Nova Scotia reporting the largest decline

YEAR-OVER-YEAR (seasonally adjusted, Feb 2022 vs. Feb 2021)

Nova Scotia's wholesale trade increased 1.7%, and Canada's wholesale trade increased 14.2%.

 

YEAR-TO-DATE (seasonally adjusted, Jan-Feb 2022 vs. Jan-Feb 2021)

Nova Scotia wholesale trade increased 4.7% to $2.2 billion. Canada wholesale trade increased 13.9% to $157.9 billion. All provinces reported year to date increases in wholesale trade, with Saskatchewan reporting the largest gain and Newfoundland and Labrador reporting the smallest.

 

NOVA SCOTIA SECTORS (seasonally adjusted, Jan-Feb 2022 vs. Jan-Feb 2021)

Nova Scotia total wholesale trade increased 1.7% ($18.5 million). Four categories were up, with the largest contribution to overall gain ($29.0 million) coming from miscellaneous wholesalers. Wholesale trade in motor vehicles sector was down 9.0% ($16.7 million).

 

TRENDS 

Nova Scotia's wholesale trade rebounded sharply from the pandemic decline, rising much more quickly than the national average in early 2021. From May 2021 to August 2021, Nova Scotia wholesale merchant sales declined and fluctuating since October 2021. 

  

INVENTORIES (Canada Feb 2022 vs. Jan 2022)

National inventories increased 1.7% to $107.9 billion.
