NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, MARCH 2022

Month-over-month (Mar 2022 vs. Feb 2022)

 

In Nova Scotia, the price of new housing increased 1.1% following no changes over the last nine months. Nationally, prices were up 1.2%. In March 2022, new home prices increased in 18 of the 27 CMAs and remained unchanged in 9. 

The largest month-over-month increases were in Manitoba (+3.4%) and Alberta (+2.9%). New home prices in Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick were unchanged from last month.

 

Year-over-year (Mar 2022 vs Mar 2021)

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 4.7% from the previous year in March 2022. Nationally, prices were up 11.0%. All provinces posted gains led by Manitoba (+24.3%). Newfoundland and Labrador (+3.2%) reported the smallest gain in March 2022.

 

 

Year-over-year (Mar 2022 vs Mar 2021): Census Metropolitan Areas

Halifax new home prices increased 4.7% year-over-year in March 2022.

New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+24.4%). New housing price had the smallest increase in Hamilton (+0.6%).

Year-to-date (Jan-Mar 2022 vs Jan-Mar 2021): Provinces

All provinces reported year-to-date growth in new housing prices. Nova Scotia increased 5.4% and nationally the increase was 11.3%. Manitoba (+22.8%) had the largest increase and Newfoundland and Labrador (+3.7%) the smallest.

 

Year-to-date (Jan-Mar 2022 vs Jan-Mar 2021): Census Metropolitan Areas

Halifax's new housing price index was up 5.4% for January-March 2022 compared to January-March 2021. All cities had growth with the fastest growth in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+25.5%) and the slowest in Hamilton (+0.4%).
