NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, APRIL 2022

Month-over-month (Apr 2022 vs. Mar 2022)

In Nova Scotia, the price of new housing remained the same in April following a 1.1% increase in the previous month. Nationally, prices were up 0.3%. In April 2022, new home prices increased in 10 of the 27 CMAs, declined in one and remained unchanged in the remainder of the CMAs. 

The largest month-over-month increases were in New Brunswick (+1.4%). New home prices remained unchanged from the previous month in all Atlantic provinces and declined in Quebec.

Year-over-year (Apr 2022 vs Apr 2021)

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 2.7% from the previous year in April 2022. Nationally, prices were up 9.4%. All provinces posted gains led by Manitoba (+21.9%). Newfoundland and Labrador (+2.5%) reported the smallest gain in April 2022.

 

Year-over-year (Apr 2022 vs Apr 2021): Census Metropolitan Areas

Halifax new home prices increased 2.7% year-over-year in April 2022.

New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Winnipeg (+21.9%) and Calgary (+21.7). New housing price had the smallest increase in Hamilton (+0.6%).

Year-to-date (Jan-Apr 2022 vs Jan-Apr 2021): Provinces

All provinces reported year-to-date growth in new housing prices. Nova Scotia increased 4.7% and nationally the increase was 10.8%. Manitoba (+22.6%) had the largest increase and Newfoundland and Labrador (+3.4%) the smallest.

Year-to-date (Jan-Apr 2022 vs Jan-Apr 2021): Census Metropolitan Areas

Halifax's new housing price index was up 4.7% for January-April 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. All cities had growth with the fastest growth in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+23.8%) and the slowest in Hamilton (+0.5%).
