FOOD SERVICES AND DRINKING PLACES, MARCH 2022

Month-over-Month (Mar 2022 vs. Feb 2022, seasonally adjusted)

Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts increased 3.2% to $150.4 million. Canada's food services and drinking places receipts increased 6.5% to $6.8 billion. All provinces reported monthly increases in food services and drinking places, with Manitoba (17.3%) reporting the largest gain, and Newfoundland and Labrador (0.1%) reporting the smallest gain in percentage terms.

 

 

Year-over-Year (Mar 2022 vs. Mar 2021, seasonally adjusted)

Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts increased 14.2%. Canada's food services and drinking places receipts increased 34.1%. All provinces reported year-over-year increases in food services and drinking place receipts, with Quebec (51.2%) reporting the largest gain and Prince Edward Island (5.7%) reporting the smallest gain in percentage terms.

Year-to-Date (Jan-Mar 2022 vs. Jan-Mar 2021, seasonally adjusted)

Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts increased 7.9% ($31.2 million). Canada's food services and drinking places receipts increased 31.7% ($4.4 billion). All provinces reported year-to-date increases in food services and drinking place receipts, with Quebec (43.6%) reporting the largest gain and Prince Edward Island (0.6%) reporting the smallest gain in percentage terms.

 Nova Scotia Sales by Establishment Type (Jan-Mar 2022 vs. Jan-Mar 2021, unadjusted)

Compared with Jan-Mar 2021, the gains in food service and drinking place receipts have been most pronounced for Nova Scotia's full-service restaurants ($18.6 million) and limited-service eating places ($6.1 million). In annual percentage terms, the increases have been greatest for special food services (+21.3%), full-service eating places (+16.1%) and drinking places (15.4%).

 

 

Trends 

 In March 2022, National food services and drinking places sales were 4.8% above  pre-pandemic levels. All provinces reported sales above February 2020.
