MONTH OVER MONTH (May-22 vs Apr-22, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 1,700 (0.3%) to 513,800
  • Employment decreased 2,100 (-0.4%) to 479,400
  • Unemployment increased 3,800 (12.4%) to 34,400
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.7 percentage points to 6.7%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 11,800 (0.1%) to 20,698,100
  • Employment increased 39,800 (0.2%) to 19,640,300
  • Unemployment decreased 28,000 (-2.6%) to 1,057,800
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 5.1%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 3,500 (1.4%) to 261,500
  • Employment increased 3,800 (1.5%) to 249,300
  • Unemployment decreased 400 (-3.2%) to 12,200
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 4.7%

YEAR OVER YEAR (May-22 vs May-21)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 22,500 (4.6%)
  • Employment increased 35,100 (7.9%)
  • Unemployment decreased 12,600 (-26.8%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 2.9 percentage points

In Canada,

  • Labour force increased 503,100 (2.5%)
  • Employment increased 1,055,500 (5.7%)
  • Unemployment decreased 552,400 (-34.3%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 2.9 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

  • Labour force increased 2,700 (1.0%)
  • Employment increased 13,200 (5.6%)
  • Unemployment decreased 10,500 (-46.3%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 4.1 percentage points
