June 17, 2022EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, MAY 2022 Year-over-year (May 2022 vs. May 2021)
The inflation rate moved up to 8.8% in the European Union in May 2022 and was up 8.1% in the Euro Area in May 2022.
The fastest inflation was reported in Estonia (+20.1%), Lithuania (+18.5%), and Latvia (+16.8%) and the lowest inflation rates were in Malta and France (both +5.8%).
Food price inflation increased to 10.3% in the European Union and to 8.9% in the Euro Area.
Energy inflation increased to 37.7% in the European Union and 39.1% in the Euro Area.
Excluding the impacts of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices inflation increased to 4.5% in the European Union and 3.8% in the Euro Area in May.
Note: Canada and Nova Scotia May 2022 CPI figures will be released on June 22, 2022.
