NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, MAY 2022

Month-over-month (May 2022 vs April 2022)

In Nova Scotia, the price of new housing increased 2.4% from April to May - the largest gain among provinces.  Nationally, prices were up 0.5% with gains in seven provinces.  The other three Atlantic provinces reported no changes in new housing prices.                                           

Year-over-year (May 2022 vs May 2021)

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 3.6% from May 2021.  Nationally, prices were up 8.4%. 

All provinces posted gains led by Manitoba while Prince Edward Island reported the smallest year-over-year gain.

Halifax new home prices increased 3.6% year-over-year in May 2022.  New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Winnipeg and Calgary. New housing price had the smallest increase in Hamilton.

Year-to-date (January-May 2022 vs January-May 2021): Provinces

Nova Scotia new housing prices increased 4.5% on average through the first five months of the year.  Nationally the increase was 10.3% with gains in all provinces. Manitoba had the largest increase and Newfoundland and Labrador reported the smallest.

Halifax's new housing price index was up 4.5% for January-May 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. All cities had growth with the fastest growth in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo and Winnipeg and the slowest in Hamilton.
