UK GDP Q1 2022 (SECOND ESTIMATE)

The Office for National Statistics (ONS)' second estimate of UK Gross Domestic Product (seasonally adjusted annualized rate) for Q1 2022 reports growth of 3.1% following a growth of 5.2% in Q4 2021. Compared to pre-pandemic quarter (Q4 2019), the UK economy is 0.7% larger in Q1 2022. For Q1 2022, output increased in services on higher information and communication, accommodation and food, and transportation and storage. Construction output and production output rose for the quarter.

Services output grew in Q1, 2022 with increased activity in computer programming and information service activities and accommodation and food services. Services output also increased in transport and storage and administrative and support activities. Wholesale and retail trade activity declined due to supply chain disruptions. Services output is now 1.5% above pre-pandemic levels.

Production activity rose 1.3% in Q1 2022. Production activity was 1.8% lower than pre-pandemic levels. The quarterly increase was driven by manufacturing output. 

Construction output increased 2.2% in Q1 2022 reflecting increases in new work and repair and maintenance. Construction output is now 0.3% above pre-pandemic levels.
