US HOUSING STARTS AND BUILDING PERMITS, JUNE 2022

Month over month (Jun-22 vs May-22, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                                  

US residential building permits decreased 0.6% over the previous month to 1,685,000. Single unit structures were down 8.0%. Structures with 2 to 4 units were down 5.5%. Structures with 5 units or more were up 13.1%.                
                
US housing starts decreased 2.0% over the previous month to 1,559,000.            

                                           

Year over year (Jun-22 vs Jun-21, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                                                 

US residential building permits increased 1.4% over the same month last year. Permits for single unit structures decreased 11.4%. Permits for structures with 2 to 4 units increased 6.1%. Permits for structures with 5 units or more increased 27.8%                
                
US housing starts decreased 6.3% over the same month last year. Starts for single unit structures decreased 15.7%. Starts for structures with 5 or more units increased 16.4%.                                                        

                                                               

Year to date (Jan-Jun 2022 vs Jan-Jun 2021, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                    

US residential building permits increased 2.9% over the same period last year to 1,685,000. Permits for single unit structures declined 3.5%. Permits for structures with 2 to 4 units increased 1.9%. Permits for structures with 5 units or more up 16.8%                
                
                
Housing starts are up 6.3% over the same period last year to 1,559,000. Starts for single unit structures increased 0.5%. Starts for structures with 5 or more units increased 20.0%
