US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JULY 2022

The United States Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 8.5% year-over-year in July. This was below the 9.1% increase reported in June 2022.

The seasonally adjusted index was unchanged compared to previous month, decelerating from the 1.3% rise that occurred in June. The gasoline index fell 7.7% in July that help to offset increases in food (+1.1%) and shelter (+0.5%) indexes.

The 12-month change in the CPI - all items less food and energy was 5.9% in July, the same as in June. Over the past 12 months, the energy index is up 32.9% with gasoline up 44.0%. The food index increased 10.9% compared to July 2021, the largest 12-month increase since May 1979.
