WHOLESALE TRADE, JUNE 2022

MONTH-OVER-MONTH (seasonally adjusted, Jun 2022 vs. May 2022)

In percentage terms, Nova Scotia wholesale trade decreased -7.4% to $1,070.0 million. Canada wholesale trade increased 0.1% to $80.7 billion. Three provinces reported monthly increases in wholesale trade, with Manitoba reporting the largest gain, and Nova Scotia reporting the largest decline.                                            

YEAR-OVER-YEAR (seasonally adjusted, Jun 2022 vs. Jun 2021)

Nova Scotia wholesale trade decreased -7.7%. Canada wholesale trade increased 12.2%. Seven provinces reported increased wholesale trade year-over-year, led by Saskatchewan. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the largest year-over-year decline.

 

YEAR-TO-DATE (seasonally adjusted, Jan-Jun 2022 vs. Jan-Jun 2021)

Nova Scotia wholesale trade increased 1.2% to $6.8 billion. Canada wholesale trade increased 13.3% to $481.0 billion. Nine provinces reported year to date increases in wholesale trade, with Saskatchewan reporting the largest gain and Newfoundland and Labrador reporting the only decline.

NOVA SCOTIA SECTORS (seasonally adjusted, Jan-June 2022 vs. Jan-June 2021)

Nova Scotia total wholesale trade increased 1.2% ($84 million). The largest dollar contributions came from food and beverage wholesalers, and building materials wholesalers.

 

TRENDS 

Nova Scotia's wholesale trade rebounded sharply from the pandemic decline, rising much more quickly than the national average in early 2021.  Over the past year, Nova Scotia's wholesale trade has returned to the national trend.  

 

 

INVENTORIES (Canada May 2022 vs. Apr 2022)

National inventories increased 3.4% from May to June 2022 to $120.0 billion.  The national ratio of inventories to sales increased from 1.44 in May to 1.49 in June 2022.
