NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL GOODS EXPORTS, JULY 2022

Year-over-year (July 2022 vs July 2021)

Nova Scotia international merchandise exports were $582.5 million in July 2022, an increase of 1.4% compared to July 2021. Canada merchandise exports increased 29.6% compared to July 2021.  International merchandise exports were higher in all provinces in July 2022. The largest increases were in Alberta and Saskatchewan and the smallest in Nova Scotia.

Year-to-date (Jan-Jul22 vs Jan-Jul21)

Nova Scotia's exports totalled $3,926.2 million over the first 7 months of the year. Year-to-date exports were up 7.5% in Nova Scotia and 28.8% in Canada. The fastest growth has been in Alberta, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan. The slowest growth has been in Manitoba and Nova Scotia.

Excluding energy exports, Canada's exports were up 13.6% with the fastest growth in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick.  Non-energy exports were down in Newfoundland and Labrador.  

The largest dollar increase in Nova Scotia's year-to-date exports has been farm, fishing and intermediate food products (+$138.0 million, +16.8%). Most commodity categories have increased with declines only in motor vehicle/parts, and transportation equipment.

Nova Scotia's merchandise exports to the US were up 8.7%.  Exports to major European destinations were up as well, led by Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Italy.  Exports were down to China, Japan and South Korea, but up for Hong Kong and Indonesia.
