September 22, 2022NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, AUGUST 2022 Month-over-month (August 2022 vs July 2022)
In Nova Scotia, the price of new housing did not change from July to August. Nationally, prices were up 0.1% with gains in four provinces, and no change in six provinces. The largest gain was reported in Saskatchewan.
Year-over-year (August 2022 vs August 2021)
Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 3.6% from August 2021. Nationally, prices were up 6.9%.
All provinces posted gains led by Manitoba while Newfoundland and Labrador reported the smallest year-over-year gain.
Halifax new home prices increased 3.6% year over year in August 2022. New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Calgary and Winnipeg. New housing price had the smallest increase in Hamilton.
Year-to-date (January-August 2022 vs January-August 2021): Provinces
Nova Scotia new housing prices increased 4.1% on average through the first eight months of the year. Nationally new housing prices increased 9.2% with gains in all provinces. Manitoba had the largest increase and Newfoundland and Labrador reported the smallest.
Halifax's new housing price index was up 4.1% for January-August 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. All cities had growth with the fastest growth in Winnipeg and Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo and the slowest in Hamilton.
