Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments declined 0.9% to $925 million. National shipments decreased 2.0% to $70.4 billion.
Manufacturing shipments were down in 7 of 10 provinces, led by New Brunswick and Quebec. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the largest increase.
Year over year (August 2022 vs August 2021)
Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 11.2%. National shipments increased 15.9%.
Manufacturing shipments were up in 9 of 10 provinces, led by New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Newfoundland and Labrador was the only province to report a decline.
Year to date (seasonally adjusted, January-August 2022 vs January-August 2021)
Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 10.0%. National shipments increased 20.0%.
Manufacturing shipments were up in all provinces except Newfoundland and Labrador. New Brunswick reported the fastest growth.
Nova Scotia's durable goods shipments increased 7.9%, while non-durable goods shipments increased 11.1%. In Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 5.5%, while non-durables increased 8.9%. Outside Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 10.6%, while non-durables increased 11.6%.
Trends
After reporting a large increased in May of 2022, Nova Scotia's seasonally adjusted manufacturing shipments have fallen back towards previous trends. Periodic spikes in Nova Scotia's shipments values are not uncommon. Throughout most of 2022, Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments growth has lagged the national pace.
