MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS, OCTOBER 2022

Month over month (seasonally adjusted, October 2022 vs September  2022)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 1.9% to $866 million. National shipments increased 2.8% to $72.6 billion.

Manufacturing shipments were up in 7 of 10 provinces led by Saskatchewan, Alberta and Prince Edward Island. British Columbia reported the largest decline. 

Year over year (October 2022 vs October 2021)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 5.5%. National shipments increased 16.5%.

Manufacturing shipments were up in 9 of 10 provinces, led by Alberta, New Brunswick, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Newfoundland and Labrador was the only province to report a decline.

Year to date (seasonally adjusted, January-October 2022 vs January-October 2021)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 8.6%. National shipments increased 19.6%.

Manufacturing shipments were up in all provinces except Newfoundland and Labrador.  New Brunswick reported the fastest growth.

Nova Scotia's durable goods shipments increased 3.7%, while non-durable goods shipments increased 11.2%. In Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 1.8%, while non-durables increased 7.4%. Outside Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 6.0%, while non-durables increased 12.1%.

Trends 

After reporting a large increased in May of 2022, Nova Scotia's seasonally adjusted manufacturing shipments have fallen back towards previous trends.  Periodic spikes in Nova Scotia's shipments values are not uncommon.  Throughout most of 2022, Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments growth has lagged the national pace.
