Japan’s inflation (all items, year-over-year growth in consumer price index) increased by 4.4% in January 2023 compared to the same time last year. This was the fastest year-over-year CPI inflation in Japan since December 1981. Japan's underlying inflation (all items excluding fresh food and energy) increased to 3.2%.
Japan's energy prices were up 14.6% in January 2023 compared with January 2022. Japan's food inflation increased 7.4% over this period.
