EU AND EURO AREA RETAIL TRADE, JANUARY 2023

                                                                                                               

Month-over-month (Jan 2023 vs. Dec 2022, seasonally adjusted turnover value)

In the European Union, retail sales were up 0.7%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 0.5%.

 

Year-over-year (Jan 2023 vs. Jan 2022, seasonally adjusted turnover value)

In the European Union, on a year-over-year basis, retail sales were up 7.8% in Jan 2023 vs. Jan 2022. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 6.7% in Jan 2023 vs. Jan 2022.

By member state, where data is available, the strongest growth in year over year retail sales occurred in Slovenia (+30.5%), Hungary (+21.3%), and Bulgaria (+21.1%). The weakest growth was reported in Belgium (+2.5%), Denmark (+2.7%), and Germany (+2.8%).
