NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL GOODS EXPORTS, JANUARY 2023

Year over year (January 2023 vs January 2022, domestic exports on a customs-basis, unadjusted)

Nova Scotia international goods exports were $536.9 million in January 2023, an increase of 7.4% compared to January 2022.                                                                                            

                                                                                       

Canada's goods exports were up 18.9%.  All provinces reported year-over year increases in January 2023. The largest increase was in Saskatchewan and the smallest was in British Columbia.

 

Among broad product categories, Nova Scotia's January 2023 exports growth was most attributable to gains in consumer goods. The largest percentage increase was in the smaller energy category.

The US is by far Nova Scotia's largest destination for international goods exports. For January 2023, Nova Scotia exports to the United States were up 7.2% to $341.9 million.

China is Nova Scotia's second largest export destination and exports increased 22.5% to $107.6 million in January 2023.

For January 2023 compared to January 2022, exports were up to Hong Kong, India, and Germany and declined to South Korea, United Kingdom, and Netherlands. The fastest growth was in relatively small export destinations of Indonesia and Switzerland.

 

Nova Scotia's exports to the US accounted for 63.7% of exports in January 2023. The top five states - Massachusetts, Illinois, South Carolina, Texas and Maine, all had increases compared to January 2022.
