MONTH OVER MONTH (February 2023 vs January 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 1,000 (-0.2%) to 527,100
  • Employment decreased 4,700 (-0.9%) to 496,900
  • Unemployment increased 3,700 (+14.0%) to 30,200
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.7 percentage points to 5.7%

In Canada,

  • Labour force increased 42,200 (+0.2%) to 21,120,500
  • Employment increased 21,800 (+0.1%) to 20,054,100
  • Unemployment increased 20,400 (+2.0%) to 1,066,400
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 5.0%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average)

  • Labour force increased 1,500 (+0.5%) to 274,900
  • Employment increased 900 (+0.3%) to 262,000
  • Unemployment increased 500 (+4.0%) to 12,900
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 4.7%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (February 2023 vs February 2022)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 13,100 (+2.5%)
  • Employment increased 15,500 (+3.2%)
  • Unemployment decreased 2,400 (-7.4%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.6 percentage points

In Canada,

  • Labour force increased 350,800 (+1.7%)
  • Employment increased 410,300 (+2.1%)
  • Unemployment decreased 59,500 (-5.3%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.4 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average)

  • Labour force increased 15,500 (+6.0%)
  • Employment increased 17,300 (+7.1%)
  • Unemployment decreased 1,800 (-12.2%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.0 percentage points
