March 15, 2023US RETAIL SALES, FEBRUARY 2022 Month over month (February 2023 vs January 2023, seasonally adjusted)
The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales have decreased to $697.9 billion (-0.4%). Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales decreased 0.1% while food service and drinking places fell 2.2%.
Year-over-year (February 2023 vs February 2022, seasonally adjusted)
US retail trade increased 4.0% and food services and drinking places sales increased 15.3%.
Year-to-date (Jan-Feb 2023 vs Jan-Feb 2022, seasonally adjusted)
During the first two months of 2023, the United States retail trade and food services increased 6.5%. Retail trade increased 4.7% and food services and drinking places sales increased 19.7%.
Sales were up in 12 of 13 retail categories, the only decline (in percentage terms) was seen in electronics (-2.2%) while the fastest gain was reported in food services (+19.7) and general retail (+9.0%).
