US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, FEBRUARY 2023

Month over month (February 2023 vs January 2023, seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending decreased 0.1% to $1,844.1 billion. Total residential construction decreased 0.6% to $861.9 billion. Total non-residential construction spending increased 0.4% to $982.2 billion.

Private sector construction remained steady at $1,453.2 billion. Private residential construction decreased 0.6% to $852.1 billion, while private non-residential construction spending increased 0.7% to $601.0 billion.

Public sector construction decreased 0.2% to $391.0 billion. Public residential construction increased 0.1% to $9.8 billion, while public non-residential construction spending decreased 0.2% to $381.1 billion.

Year over year (February 2023 vs February 2022)

US construction spending was up 5.2%

  • Total residential construction was down 5.5%
  • Total non-residential construction was up 16.8%
  • Private sector construction was up 3.3%
  • Public sector construction was up 12.8%

Year to date (January-February 2023 vs January-February 2022)

 US construction spending was up 6.0%

  • Total residential construction was down 4.1%
  • Total non-residential construction was up 16.9%
  • Private sector construction was up 4.2%
  • Public sector construction was up 13.2%
