Japan’s inflation (all items, year-over-year growth in consumer price index) increased by 3.3% in March 2023 compared to the same time last year. This was the same year-over-year CPI inflation as last month and down from 4.4% in January 2023. Japan's underlying inflation (all items excluding fresh food and energy) increased to 3.7%, the fastest increase since 1981.
Japan's energy prices were down 3.8% in March 2023 compared with March 2022. Japan's food inflation increased 7.7% over this period.
