UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, JANUARY 2023 TO MARCH 2023

The UK Office for National Statistics reported today that the unemployment rate for the three-month period January 2022 to March 2023, increased to 3.9% This was up from the 3.7% average from October to December 2022 and from the 3.7% reported for the same period a year ago.  The UK unemployment rate is rising because labour force increases are outpacing growth in employment.

There were 1.329 million unemployed people in the UK, 70,000 more than from a year earlier. Employment in the UK was at 32.995 million, 363,000 million more compared to a year earlier.
