CANADA TRADE BALANCE, APRIL 2023

GOODS

In April 2023, Canada's international export of goods increased to $64.8 billion (+2.5% from March 2023). Canada’s goods imports edged down (-0.2%) in April 2023 to $62.9 billion. The international trade surplus in goods widened from $230.9 million deficit in March to $1,939.4 million in April.

Export of goods to the United States from Canada increased 4.4% to $49.6 billion in April 2023 while imports of goods from the US decreased 0.4% to $40.1 billion. Canada's trade surplus in goods with the US widened by $2.2 billion to $9.5 billion in April 2023.

Canada's exports of goods to China decreased 14.7% to $2.4 billion in April 2023. Canada's imports of goods from China declined by 8.9% to $5.4 billion. Canada's deficit in goods trade with China narrowed by $0.06 billion to $2.5 billion.

In April 2023, Canada's exports of goods to the European Union increased by 6.0% to $3.0 billion. Canada's imports of goods from the EU were up 15.1% to $6.4 billion. Canada's deficit in goods trade with the EU widened by $0.7 billion to $3.3 billion.

SERVICES

Canada's international exports of services decreased 0.5% to $14.4 billion in April 2023. Canada's imports of services during the same month were little changed at $15.6 billion. Canada's deficit in international service trade narrowed by $76 million to $1.2 billion.

GOODS AND SERVICES

Canada’s international exports of goods and services increased 2.0% to $79.3 billion in April 2023. Canada's international imports of goods and services fell by 0.1% to $78.5 billion. Canada's overall international trade balance in goods and services shifted from a deficit of $0.9 billion in March 2023 to a surplus of $0.8 billion in April 2023.
