MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS, JUNE 2024

Monthly (seasonally adjusted, June 2024 vs May 2024)                                                                            

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments decreased 5.4% to $0.908 billion. National shipments decreased 2.1% to $69.6 billion.

Manufacturing shipments were down in 8 of 10 provinces. New Brunswick and British Columbia had the only reported increases. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the largest decrease.

Year-over-year (June 2024 vs June 2023)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments fell by 10.1%, the steepest decline among the provinces. National shipments decreased 1.8%.

Manufacturing shipments were up in 5 out of 10 provinces. Alberta reported the largest increase. 

Year-to-date (seasonally adjusted, January-June 2024 vs January-June 2023)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 0.7%. National shipments decreased 2.3%.

Manufacturing shipments were down in 7 of 10 provinces. Saskatchewan reported the steepest decline. Prince Edward Island reported the largest increase.

Nova Scotia's durable goods shipments decreased 7.3%, while non-durable goods shipments increased 5.9%. In Halifax, durable goods shipments decreased 23.2%, while non-durables decreased 1.8%. Outside Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 14.5%, while non-durables increased 7.6%.

 

Trends 

Nova Scotia’s manufacturing shipments have fluctuated around the same value since 2022. Periodic spikes and drops in Nova Scotia's shipments values are not uncommon. Nationally manufacturing shipments have been relatively trending down over the same period.
