NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, JULY 2024

Monthly (July 2024 vs June 2024)

Nova Scotia's new housing prices were unchanged in July over the previous month. Nationally new housing prices were up 0.2% from the previous month with gains in 4 provinces. Alberta reported the largest gain in new housing prices while Manitoba reported the only decline. New housing prices were unchanged in 5 of 10 provinces.

Year-over-year (July 2024 vs July 2023) 

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased by 0.2% from July 2023 to July 2024. Nationally, new housing prices were up 0.1% year-over-year.

New housing prices were up in 7 provinces, led by Alberta. Two provinces reported lower new housing prices compared with July 2023: Ontario and Manitoba.  New housing prices were unchanged in Prince Edward Island.

Halifax new home prices increased 0.2% year-over-year in July 2024. Among Census Metropolitan Areas, the largest year-over-year gains were in Trois-Rivières and Calgary while Ottawa reported the sharpest year-over-year decline in new housing prices.

Year to date (January-July 2024 vs January-July 2023)

In the first half of 2024, Nova Scotia's new housing price index is 0.7% lower compared to the same period in 2023. Nationally, new housing prices were down 0.3% year-to-date with declines in 4 provinces, led by Ontario.  Year-to-date new housing prices were up the most in Alberta.

Halifax new housing prices were down 0.7% in January-July 2024 compared to January-July 2023. The fastest growth among CMAs was in Calgary and Québec City and the fastest decline was in Ottawa.
