CANADA GDP BY INDUSTRY, JUNE 2024

Month-over-month (June 2024 vs May 2024)

Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Canada was slightly down 0.03% in June following 0.1% growth in May 2024. 

Real GDP in Canada's goods producing industries was down 0.4% from May to June 2024.  

Real GDP in Canada's services-producing industries was up 0.1% from May to June 2024

In June 2024, 12 industries have grown from the previous month. Among broad industries, monthly GDP gains were strongest for utilities, agriculture/forestry/fishing, and finance/insurance. The largest declines were reported for management of companies, manufacturing, wholesale, and construction.  

Year-to-date (January-June 2024 vs January-June 2023)

The Canadian economy was 1.0% larger in January-June 2024 when compared to the same period of 2023.

Real GDP from goods producing industries was down 1.2% with losses across all industries except mining/oil/gas (+3.9%).

Real GDP from services-producing industries was up 1.7% with gains in most industries. The year-to-date real GDP declines were in company management (-32.6%, though this is a small industry), administrative/support/call centres (-0.6%), and information/culture (-0.3%). The strongest increases were in transportation/warehousing (+3.2%), health/social assistance (+2.7%), and education (+2.4%).
