MONTH OVER MONTH (September 2024 vs August 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 1,200 (+0.2%) to 551,200
  • Employment increased 3,000 (+0.6%) to 516,100
  • Unemployment decreased 1,900 (-5.1%) to 35,000
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.4 percentage points to 6.3%

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 15,900 (+0.1%) to 22,010,500
  • Employment increased 46,700 (+0.2%) to 20,582,400
  • Unemployment decreased 30,800 (-2.1%) to 1,428,100
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 6.5%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force decreased 1,000 (-0.3%) to 294,200
  • Employment decreased 200 (-0.1%) to 278,100
  • Unemployment decreased 700 (-4.2%) to 16,100
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 5.5%

YEAR OVER YEAR (September 2024 vs September 2023)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 17,900 (+3.4%)
  • Employment increased 19,900 (+4.0%)
  • Unemployment decreased 2,100 (-5.7%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.7 percentage points

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 543,100 (+2.5%)
  • Employment increased 312,600 (+1.5%)
  • Unemployment increased 230,600 (+19.3%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.9 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 13,800 (+4.9%)
  • Employment increased 17,000 (+6.5%)
  • Unemployment decreased 3,200 (-16.6%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.4 percentage points
