LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, OCTOBER 2024

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (October 2024 vs September 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 3,000 (-0.5%) to 548,200
  • Employment decreased 2,100 (-0.4%) to 514,000
  • Unemployment decreased 800 (-2.3%) to 34,200
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 6.2%

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 15,400 (+0.1%) to 22,025,900
  • Employment increased 14,500 (+0.1%) to 20,596,900
  • Unemployment increased 900 (+0.1%) to 1,429,000
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 6.5%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 1,300 (+0.4%) to 295,500
  • Employment increased 1,400 (+0.5%) to 279,500
  • Unemployment decreased 100 (-0.6%) to 16,000
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 5.4%

YEAR OVER YEAR (October 2024 vs October 2023)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 9,400 (+1.7%)
  • Employment increased 10,300 (+2.0%)
  • Unemployment decreased 1,000 (-2.8%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.3 percentage points

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 496,300 (+2.3%)
  • Employment increased 303,200 (+1.5%)
  • Unemployment increased 193,100 (+15.6%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.8 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 14,800 (+5.3%)
  • Employment increased 15,600 (+5.9%)
  • Unemployment decreased 800 (-4.8%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.6 percentage points
