Labour Market Report
The Labour Market Report is the Department of Finance & Treasury Board's monthly analytical publication, comprised of the latest information from Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey, as well as other indicators which describe labour-related trends in Canada, such as Employment Insurance, Average weekly earnings, and total wages and salaries. Some indicators are measured at the national and provincial level, while others are reported at the level of the economic region.

LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - SEPTEMBER 2017

In Nova Scotia September 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.7% (+3,400) from August 2017 to 491,200 and increased 1.7% (+8,300) over September 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.5% (+2,300) from August  2017 to 446,900 and increased 0.7% (+3,100) over September 2016.

LABOUR MARKET TRENDS - SEPTEMBER 2017

Nova Scotia's seasonally adjusted employment increased by 2,300 to 446,900 in September 2017.  This carries on the monthly employment change up-and-down pattern since the start of 2017.

JOB VACANCIES AND WAGES, 2017Q2

Statistics Canada has released its quarterly job vacancy and wage survey (unadjusted for seasonality). EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE FEBRUARY 2015

In February 2015, the number (seasonally adjusted) of Nova Scotians receiving regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits increased by 580 persons (2.2%) from the previous month to 27,190 and increased by 160 persons (0.6%) over February 2014.

EMPLOYMENT, EARNINGS AND HOURS, FEBRUARY 2015

Nova Scotians' average weekly earnings (including overtime, seasonally adjusted) decreased $3.98 per week (-0.5%) from January to $831.80 in February 2015.  This is 1.9 per cent above the level in February of last year. Canadians' average weekly wages increased 0.3 per cent from January to $951.40 in February 2015, a 2.7 percent increase over February 2014.
