- Labour force remains virtually unchanged (200) from December 2017 at 494,000 and increased 0.9% (4,400) over January 2017.
- Employment decreased -0.2% (-700) from December 2017 to 453,500 and increased 0.4% (2,000) over January 2017.
- Unemployment increased 2.3% (900) from December 2017 to 40,500 and increased 6.3% (2,400) over January 2017.
- Unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 8.2%.
In Canada January 2018, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force decreased -0.4% (-73,700) from December 2017 to 19,710,500 and increased 0.6% (123,800) over January 2017.
- Employment decreased -0.5% (-88,000) from December 2017 to 18,557,100 and increased 1.6% (288,700) over January 2017.
- Unemployment increased 1.3% (14,300) from December 2017 to 1,153,400 and decreased -12.5% (-164,900) over January 2017.
- Unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points to 5.9%.
In Halifax January 2018, (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):
- Labour force increased 0.6% (1,400) from December 2017 to 243,100 and increased 1.1% (2,700) over January 2017.
- Employment increased 0.7% (1,500) from December 2017 to 226,400 and increased 0.4% (800) over January 2017.
- Unemployment decreased -1.2% (-200) from December 2017 to 16,600 and increased 12.9% (1,900) over January 2017.
- Unemployment rate decreased -0.2 percentage points to 6.8%.
