The Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

February 6, 2022 marks the beginning of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, recognizing Her Majesty’s 70 years of service as Queen of Canada. A variety of commemorative celebrations will be held throughout the province to commemorate this unprecedented historic event.

The events will focus on a number of themes:

  • For 70 years, Her Majesty has exemplified the true meaning of public service. The Platinum Jubilee is an opportunity to highlight those Canadians, who, like Her Majesty, have dedicated themselves to the service of family, community and the country.

  • The Platinum Jubilee is an opportunity to celebrate our shared traditions, history, symbols, values and institutions, particularly those related to the role of the Crown in Canada.

  • The Platinum Jubilee will highlight how Canada has evolved over the past 70 years of Her Majesty’s reign. It will also look to the future of our nation and how young people will contribute to our democracy.

  • Communities and organizations are encouraged to hold events and commemorations to celebrate The Queens’ remarkable service, and to this end, the Department of Canadian Heritage has established a community grant program.

For seventy years, The Queen has served Canadians and people throughout the Commonwealth. She has conducted twenty-two official Royal visits to Canada, including five to Nova Scotia. As we celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we invite Nova Scotians and all Canadians to share in this joyous and historic occasion.
