Minas Basin Wildlife Management Area Designation and Regulations

made under Section 113 of the
Wildlife Act
R.S.N.S. 1989, c. 504
O.I.C. 77-1073 (August 30, 1977, effective October 1, 1977), N.S. Reg. 100/77

The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister of Lands and Forests dated the 25th day of August, A.D., 1977, pursuant to Section 161(6) of Chapter 163 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1967, the Lands and Forests Act, Part III-Game, is pleased to:

(a) declare that the area described in Schedule "A" and shown outlined in red on Schedule "B", both attached to and forming part of the report and recommendation, be a management area to be known as Minas Basin Wildlife Management Area;

(b) make regulations in the form set out in Schedule "C" attached to and forming part of the report and recommendation, for the control of the wildlife management area and the management of wildlife therein.


Schedule "A" - Minas Basin Wildlife Management Area

All that certain parcel, piece or lot of land situated, lying and being at or near Kingsport, County of Kings, Province of Nova Scotia, being and intending to be "Minas Basin Wildlife Management Area", as shown on a plan prepared by the Department of Lands and Forests, Surveys Division and forming part of this indenture, the said parcel, piece or lot of land being comprised of lands owned by Doug Clark, Esther Woolaver, Elliott Palmeter, Marilyn Taylor, Cecil Huntly, Maurice Huntly and Lynn Hoffmann and being more particularly described as follows:

Beginning at the intersection of the southeastern boundary line of Highway No. 401, commonly known as the Medford Road, and the northeastern boundary line of Highway No. 407, commonly known as Longspell Road;

From thence in a southeasterly, northeasterly and northerly direction along the said boundary line of the Longspell Road, distance 4400 feet to a point;

Thence in an easterly direction, along a path leading to the shore of the Minas Basin, distance 100 feet more or less to the mean high water mark of the said Minas Basin;

Thence in a northerly, northeasterly and northwesterly direction along the many courses of the said high water mark, distance 4800 feet more or less to the intersection of the said mean high water mark and the southwestern bank of Bass Creek;

Thence in a northwesterly direction along with many courses of the said bank, distance 1800 feet more or less to the intersection of the said bank and the southeastern boundary line of the Highway No. 401 (Medford Rd.);

Thence in a southwesterly direction along the said boundary line of Highway No. 401, distance 5700 feet more or less to the place of beginning. The said parcel, piece or lot of land containing 460 acres be the same more or less.

Schedule "C"
Regulations for the Management of the Minas Basin Wildlife Management Area
made pursuant to Section 113 of the Wildlife Act

1 In these regulations

(a) "Department" means the Department of Natural Resources;

(b) "Minister" means the Minister of Natural Resources;

(c) "Wildlife Management Area" means Minas Basin Wildlife Management Area.

2 No person shall enter the Wildlife Management Area without first having obtained a written permit from the Department provided, however, that this Section shall not apply to the owner of any lands within the limits of the Wildlife Management Area or to such owner’s employees.

3 Except as provided in these regulations, no person shall

(a) kill, take, hunt, trap, or pursue or attempt to kill, take or trap any wild mammal or bird within the limits of the Wildlife Management Area;

(b) have in his possession any firearm, trap, snare or poison or any wild mammal or bird or the carcass of any part of any wild mammal or bird within the limits of the Wildlife Management Area.

4 Notwithstanding Section 3 of these regulations, the Minister may authorize employees of the Department, upon such conditions as he deems necessary, to

(a) kill, take, hunt, trap, or pursue or attempt to kill, take or trap any wild mammal or bird within the limits of the Wildlife Management Area;

(b) have in his possession any firearm, trap, snare or poison or any wild mammal or bird or the carcass or any part of any wild mammal or bird within the limits of the Wildlife Management Area.

5 These regulations shall come into force on the 1st day of October, 1977.
