IMAGE INFORMATION

Bruce Meuse was a healer and a fiddle player; he died in 1979. In a letter from Holly Meuse to Darlene Ricker, written in 1991, she says about the photo only, "Marie gave me this picture...." One of 116 images collected for copying by Darlene Ricker between 1990 and 1997, as part of a project of the Bear River Mi'kmaq Reserve, Bear River, NS. Initiated by Chief Frank Meuse, the project, set up to preserve the reserve's history, resulted in a book by Darlene Ricker, 1997. The Nova Scotia Museum, Halifax, contributed the copywork for all photographs lent to the project, on the understanding that they would keep the copy negatives, but return the originals and provide the lenders with 8x10 prints of each item loaned for copying.
