IMAGE INFORMATION
"Christy Ann" in pencil on reverse [possibly Mary Christianne Paul Morris, 1814-1884, of Chocolate Lake, Halifax]; "by Wm. Valentine?" in ink on reverse. William Valentine died in 1849, so this attribution (by a former owner) is doubtful. Whoever the artist or the model was, the painting is based on a Petley lithograph of 1837.
