IMAGE INFORMATION

Formerly labeled "Elizabeth Lonecloud." This is not, however, Elizabeth Paul, Maliseet wife of Jerry Lonecloud. She and Lonecloud had separated by this date, and Lonecloud was living with Annie Gloade, for whom he seems to have borrowed this costume—as he had twice previously borrowed it for Elizabeth—from the Nova Scotia Museum, in order to have her picture made. Annie Gloade died of tuberculosis in the winter of 1931. Max Basque remembers her body being moved by sled from her father's house to the church at Shubenacadie. [Max Basque to R.H. Whitehead, personal communication, July 1977.]
