This is probably the Mi'kmaq camp at Point Lévis across from Québec; Cockburn did another painting here. Note the women's long overblouses and elaborate trade-silver brooches, a style of dress more common in Québec than the short jackets of Nova Scotia. A visit to this camp at Point Lévis was a favourite excursion for artists and tourists in the nineteenth century.
