IMAGE INFORMATION

This woman is wearing a skirt made for Marie Antoinette Thomas Sack Noel by her mother, Mary Morris Thomas. The skirt is now in the Nova Scotia Museum Collection. The woman may be Mrs. Noel, misidentified as "Mary Paul," or Mrs. Noel may have lent her costume to someone else, in which to be photographed. The caption reads: "Mary Paul, whose portrait we give from a photo taken by James Ross of Halifax, is a well-known Micmac...of Shubenacadie, somewhat well noted for her porcupine quill work, many specimens of which have found their way to Britain and been much admired. Table mats, card baskets, backs and seats for chairs, moccasins, etc., are among the articles which attest her taste and skills."
