IMAGE INFORMATION
This is a staged photo presenting an "Indian" stereotype. Chief Benjamin Pictou of Lequille is wearing his beaded coat and a crucifix, holding a "war club" made from the base of a spruce tree (its trunk and the beginning of the root structure). The photographer has posed him very romantically gazing, with one hand shading his eyes. The caption reads, "Benjamin Pictou aged 91 years/Chief of Micmac Indians Le Quille Annapolis Royal ns/Photo by J.C.M. Hayward."
