IMAGE INFORMATION

One of a number of artworks based on a watercolour by Hibbert Newton Binney, Halifax, 1791. Notice that the baby is here held in its carrier by faith alone; the wooden sides of the carrier, visible in the original, have disappeared, and there are no lashings. The head-guard, a wooden hoop, is now tight around the baby's neck. And these wigwams would win a prize as the most unlikely constructions of the century.
