This data set consists of 6 black and white TIFF files with a resolution of 25 m X 25 m covering the eastern Meguma Terrain (11D, 11E/01, 11E/02, 11E/03 and 11E/04). The images are the product of work done by Synmap Technologies under contract to NSNR&R. The images are derived from airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. Each of the six TIFF files contains three images, one SAR image and two shaded relief images. The images have been georeferenced for use in ArcView. A report by Synmap, Airborne SAR Data Processing and Analysis report, is supplied with this document. Not all of the images indicated in the report are included as part of this product. The ASAR_T1 to T6 images are included using new file names. The image planes are described below.
AR_025_T1.TIF to AR_025_T6.TIF:
image plane 1 - SAR gray level
image plane 2 - shaded relief - azimuth 335 / altitude 35
image plane 3 - shaded relief - azimuth 022 / altitude 30
Purpose:
The TIFFs are to be used as a backdrop behind other geological layers to assist with geological interpretations.

Use Constraints:
Any constraints on the use of the data are contained in the above license agreement. The terms and conditions of the license accompany the downloaded digital product. A statement of some use constraints can be viewed in the technical prerequisites.
There may be positional accuracy errors in the data that came from the original data collection. There is a discrepancy between the scale of the vectors used for the georegistration of the SAR data and the resolution of the SAR data. The detail present in the radar data is actually superior to that present in the vector topographic data layers. However, given that the objective of the project is to provide regional coverage, the discrepancy is considered to be acceptable. The entire risk as to the quality and accuracy of the data is with the user and the user shall use his/her own judgment in making use of the data or drawing conclusions from it.
The original images were produced by Synmap Information Technologies Limited under contract to Bob Boehner, Manager, Regional Mapping and Geochemistry, NR&R. They produced a report titled Airborne SAR Data Processing and Analysis Report which was submitted to Bob Boehner and is included with the digital product as file airborne_sar_report.wpd.
The objective of this project was to: convert raw airborne SAR data to usable image format, geographically register the image data to topographic data (lakes, streams, roads, coastline) (1:1,000,000 scale), generate edge enhanced images to aid in interpretation, compile data in formats which are compatible with ArcView and output data in TIFF file format for printing and plotting purposes. The following steps were thus completed in order to achieve this objective: the reading of raw SAR data from 9 track CC, the importing of data into Image Analysis System, the geographical registering of the data, application of edge enhancement algorithms, the exporting of data to tiff format, the compilation of data for ArcView, and the development of an ArcView vector database.
The tiled image products are structured differently than the full image products. The tiled products comprise 3 image planes. The first image plane contains the gray level SAR image while the second and third image planes contain the shaded relief images. This structure has been selected to optimize the use of the data in the ArcView environment.
In January 2006 the data set was renamed from RADAR to X007EMAR and moved from the IMAGE directory on the MRB "S" drive to the RADAR directory. This work was done by Brian Fisher.
In January 2006 the .TIF images were converted from UTM zone 20 NAD27 coordinates to UTM zone 20 NAD83 coordinates. This was done by Angie Ehler running the AML file - Tif27to83.aml. The images were renamed at the same time. The ASAR_Tx.TIF image series were renamed to AR_025_Tx.TIF, where x stands for the original tile number given to the images. This work was done by Angie Ehler.
