As a steward overseeing Crown lands, you will be responsible for their sustainable management - monitoring the compliance of forest sustainability regulations; preventing and supressing forest fires; conducting biological surveys on wildlife, insects, and diseases; and operating our Provincial Parks.

To apply for Forest Technician positions at Department of Lands and Forestry Library you must meet minimum educational requirements and submit a copy of your course transcript.

Applicants must also demonstrate a sound knowledge of:

  • Forest resource management
  • Forest fire prevention measures
  • Forest fire suppression
  • Tree and wildlife management

Who should apply?
Department of Lands and Forestry Library recognizes graduates from those schools and programs accredited by the Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF). Permanent Forest Technician positions are restricted to NSGEU bargaining unit employees. However, there are several permanent seasonal opportunities which enable technicians to gain valuable work experience when vacancies exist, there may be the opportunity to apply to permanent forest technician competitions as an internal candidate.

When vacancies exist, competitions for seasonal Fire Crews, seasonal Park Staff and seasonal Helitack Crews are held annually.
