Weather Stations

The Department of Natural Resources currently operates a combination of fixed and quickly deployed Remote Automated Weather Sations (RAWS) to aid in decision making and to monitor fire hazard in Nova Scotia forests.

The weather is taken daily at 1:00 (LDT) to calculate fire hazard using the Canadian Fire Weather Index System. The basic weather reading consists of:

  • Precipitation
  • Relative Humidity
  • Temperature
  • Wind Direction
  • Wind Speed
