Performance Review Completed

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

An independent review of the performance of three staff members in the minerals and energy branch of the Department of Natural Resources has been completed. The review was in response to the Westray Inquiry report.

As a result of the review and its recommendations, the status of the three individuals is as follows:

  • John Campbell will resume his duties as manager, mining engineering;
  • Don Jones has received a letter of reprimand and will resume his duties as director, mines. He will return on a probationary basis for six months;
  • Pat Phelan, former executive director of the branch, will not be returning to the department.

The three were suspended in December, shortly after the Westray Inquiry report was released.

The performance review was conducted by the consulting firm, Coopers and Lybrand.
