Agreement to Operate Wentworth Park Campground

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

An agreement has been reached whereby Wentworth Provincial Park campground in Cumberland County will be operated by Hostelling International for an initial period of five years.

The campground will open for the season Friday, May 15, and operate until Thanksgiving Day.

Natural Resources Minister Kennie MacAskill and John Stanton, president of Hostelling International - Nova Scotia, announced the arrangement today.

"This is in response to the local community's desire to have the campground operating once again," said Mr. MacAskill. "I am fully confident that Hostelling International will do an excellent job of providing and maintaining campground services at the park."

The province has not operated the 49-site campground portion of Wentworth Provincial Park since 1995, although the day-use park itself has remained open. In the spring of 1997, a call for proposals was issued inviting not-for-profit organizations to operate the campground.

Hostelling International's Nova Scotia branch was selected as an operator for five years starting this current season.
