License Agreement Signed With Snowmobilers

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Natural Resources Minister Kennie MacAskill has signed a three-year license agreement with the Snowmobilers Association of Nova Scotia for the use and maintenance of snowmobile trails on Crown land. Snowmobile Association president Arlene Taylor and past-president Laurie Cranton signed the agreement with Mr. MacAskill on Thursday, Nov. 26.

The snowmobile trails are on existing routes and will connect with an extensive network of snowmobile trails developed by the association on private lands with the owner's permission.

The pilot project will run from December through March in each of the next three years and the association will be responsible for maintenance, grooming and trail signage.

The Snowmobile Association of Nova Scotia, through member clubs across Nova Scotia, operates a trail permit system to cover maintenance costs and development. More than $500,000 dollars have been invested in trail development and maintenance over the past several years. Trail permits are available through local clubs for $50 if purchased before Dec. 15, or $65 afterward.

These trails help the association promote safe outdoor recreation for Nova Scotians, as well as attract tourists who enjoy the province's natural beauty.
